Fingerless glove design

Wednesday, October 15th, 2008 | Knitting, accessories | No Comments

I am designing my first fingerless glove and having fun doing it.  Being that it’s nearing November where we will be I-labrating H.I.M. Haile Selassie I and Empress Mennan’s Coronation I decided to name it “I haile Fari”. I’m almost done with one and will be starting the other hand tomorrow.

Fresh out the studio

This is my latest knit project that took me about a month.  I thought I would finish it in about a week but I changed my mind about what I wanted it to be so finally I decided to turn the shawl to a shrug.  It was fund doing my first freestyle project.  I just have to work on writing the pattern down as I go.

Totes anyone. I’ve been real busy getting ready for Atlantic Antic and this was one design I was glad to get out.  Another design I’ve tucked at the corner of my brain before I could finally start working on them.

Video picks: The day the dollar died

A respectable poet I know sent this video to me yesterday right after watching Zietgiest Addendum.  It was so relevant so I thought I share all three.  Ziegiest is about 2 hrs so put some time aside, grab some healthy treats and get up to date with whats really going on around you.  CNN, NBC, ABC, CBS, and surly Fox can never come close to reporting this, there job is to misinform the masses.

Transition, Grow, Reflect

Life is so precious that we have to treat it as such.  Can’t take for granted what Jah has blessed us with.  My Gift is all in the palm of my hands literally.  So that give me an advantage right?  You’ll be surprise as to what you can learn as you travel the road of life.  In the past few days the big question has been What DO YOU REALLY WANT TO DO?  I’ve been exploring my passions, drive, and most of all my work.  Just when you think your in the right place something occurs and make you think twice.

I’ve been sewing since middle school, about 7th or 8th grade to be exact.  My mom has been a seamstress since Haiti so she past her skills over to me.  I did three years of sewing in home ec in high school and the rest was mommy and books.  What has changed within the past years is Rastafari has been my guide in not just the obvious way of living but the wears I produce and the graphics InI create.  I went from designing gowns, business and casual wears to this real funky, earthy, roots and culture.  I still design traditional pieces, but my demands has been what I do now, African inspired garments.  But there’s another stem growing in this garden that is a bit unexpected. It’s the desire to move on to another form of textile and tools other than the sewing machine.

Knitting is creeping up on me and it’s taking me by surprise.  I’ve been crocheting for the past I don’t know 15 years maybe, knitting is newer since I learned it 6 years ago but have actually made something from start to finish about less then a year.

This is maybe one reason why I’ve been loving it so much.

So developing in the studio is a whole new set of designs that may flourish by 2009, it’s all in Jah hands.

I Grade Showcase

I had the pleasure of doing this flyer for some talented artists from the Virgin Island.   It started off at the Rise Up Vermont Festival were they blessed the crowd with not a performance, but brought vibes.  Each artist has a unique style, incredible voice and most importantly the lyrics is what ones have to listen to.  Unlike most reggae tune that seem to be carrying the same message over and over, they bring deep rootical messages.  It was truely a beautiful experience.  Check them on myspace through their label page I-Grade and on the official website.

Reggae for Justice

Blessed love family.  Once again NYPD has attacked one of our brothers and we need your help.

My sistren and her mother is holding a benefit concert to raise funds for her brothers defense.  Below is the detailed story of what happend.

On the eve of June 6, 2008, my brother, Isus Thompson was severely beaten and arrested in Queens, NY.  Following the NYPD’s brutal attack Isus began vomiting and was non-responsive. Isus was then brought to the emergency room at Elmhurst Hospital in an ambulance and on a stretcher; the officers told the hospital that Isus swallowed a bottle of pills.  The Hospital’s toxicology reports have no trace of any type of pills.  Isus had a severe head laceration, was non-responsive &  semi-catatonic.  My family had no knowledge of this incident until June 11, 2008 (5 days later).

When I first saw Isus he couldn’t verbalize or write his responses and could not walk.  Isus has been under police custody and moved in/out of hospitals since the night of his arrest.  The NYPD is alleging that my brother is guilty of many ridiculous charges; one a Class A felony in order to try and justify this brutal attack by over 10 plain & uniformed officers.  Isus has suffered irreparable harm, lasting physical & psychological trauma and injury.

In order to assist with legal fees and mandatory health care for his ultimate freedom a benefit concert is being presented to raise funds for the current and upcoming struggle with NYPD and the Queens assistant district attorney.

All of the artists, musicians, venues, restaurants and DJ’s participating in this event have generously donated their time & services for Isus.  I pray you can attend this event or make a contribution for his defense fund.

How many times will our sons be beat in the streets before the NYPD stops their war on black men?!!!”

The show will be held on Tuesday, September 16th at SOB’s 7pm til 1pm
